English Heritage have announced that Audrey Hepburn and Marc Bolan will be honoured with a blue plaque for their impact on London’s cultural landscapes.

The charity cited Hepburn’s role in bringing international attention and prestige to the capital while Bolan’s glam rock innovation helped blaze a new musical scene in London during the 1970s.

Other figures being recognised by plaques are Jamaican poet Una Marson, iconic ballet choreographer Alicia Markova, novelist Barbara Pym, and influential British artist Graham Sutherland.

The English Heritage curatorial director, Matt Thompson, said in a statement: “2025 marks an exciting year for the blue plaques scheme as we honour these outstanding individuals who transformed the cultural fabric of London.”

Thompson continued: “From literature and art to dance and music, these figures helped shape the London we know today. Their contributions not only had a profound impact on their fields but also continue to inspire generations.”

Hepburn’s blue plaque will be commemorated in Mayfair, while flamboyant glam-rock legend Bolan’s plaque will be placed at one of his West London addresses.

Hepburn’s career blazed a trail for artists wishing to crossover mediums, as she transitioned from ballet star to one of the world’s most iconic actresses. Both on stage and on screen, she starred in a string of classic roles, most notably her Oscar-winning portrayal of Princess Ann in Roman Holiday.

While Bolan spearheaded the ’70s glam rock movement that challenged normal concepts of masculinity through performative theatrics and striking outfit designs. He was a captivating performer and enigmatic frontman who helped cement his band T-Rex in the hallmarks of history with standout hits ‘Get It On’ and ‘I Love To Boogie’.

The blue plaque scheme is always subject to full property owner approval and runs on public suggestions. It aims to celebrate the past and present, linking them together through the impact of any individual’s work.
